If you go on airboat rides in the Everglades, the alligator is one of many species of animals that you’ll likely encounter. While they may be a common sight in the area, people have plenty of misconceptions about this creature.

They’re Basically the Same Creature as Crocs

This is perhaps the biggest misconception about alligators. While both animals are crocodilians—water-dwelling, cold-blooded reptiles—they do have very crucial differences. First, alligators live in freshwater habitats while crocodiles dwell in saltwater. Furthermore, alligators have a wider, U-shaped snout; crocodiles, meanwhile, have a pointier, V-shaped mouth.
